It is true, it was burning while I was not home they even put it out before I got back. John and I had our very first (and hopefully last) fire today. While I was at the temple I got a very frightening message with a pink piece of paper telling me that my house was on fire with a phone number on it. I was in shock, in fact I hadn't even heard Kurtis say those words to me the first time he had to say them to me a few times and then take the serving utensils out of my hands and tell me I should go home. I wasn't sure if I should call 911 or change and go home. I hurried and changed into my clothes and rushed out of the temple. I called the number and my friend Lisa answered, it was her that had called she knew that I was not home because I volunteer in the temple cafeteria on Thursdays so Lisa called and left a message for me there. It was at this point that Lisa told me she had just been informed that it was not my house but the back fence and shed that had been on fire.
I came home and saw that all of our camping gear that had been bridal shower gifts was all burnt to ashes and all of our pool cleaning equipment and supplies, which we had just purchased were also burnt to ashes. I started to shed a few tears when two people came running from the front yard, it was Lisa and our dear neighbor Stephen Merrill who had put up boards for us where our fence once was to keep the hoodlums out, I dried up my few tears and was able to talk with them to find out what all went down while the fire department was here.
The Fire investigator called me and told me that he did not have an answer as to what exactly started the fire but he does know that it did start in the alley behind our house, either by some kids playing with matches or some non-thinking person throwing a lit cigarette butt. I am so grateful that it was our shed and few items other than our house. Our house is still in shape, thank goodness we said our prayers this morning.
WOW! For some reason I've always thought "if I am at the Temple nothing wrong can go on at home~!" I am sooo sorry for you! But a blessing it wasnt your nice new home! You'd think the fire dept could check into it and find out exactly (cig butt or matches! on the scene would be a pretty good indicator!) Man or man and all your nice new stuff...Bummer, I am happy you are safe and hey that stuff can be replaced! Thank heavens for good neighbors!
ReplyDeletei am SO sorry!! that is awful! but what a good attitude you have about it! which city do you live in?
ReplyDeleteI live in Mesa.
ReplyDeletewow! I'm glad everything is ok... minus the camping & pool gear :(
ReplyDeleteSo lucky that it was only a shed and that it didn't spread to the house. Do you have a lot of hoodlums in your neighborhood?
