DVR Saved My Marriage

I did not grow up in a family of sports fans so when I married John I could not understand why he needed to watch games. In fact we had been married only a couple month when John wanted to go on a "football trip" with his dad and two brothers. As a new wife this hurt. It wasn't that he wanted to be with his family it was that he was OK with leaving me so soon. He was choosing to spend a weekend with someone other than me. We got in many fights until I finally realized it wasn't that he was leaving me but instead this was a tradition he has had for a long time and he didn't know when they would be able to go again. Purchasing the sports pac is another one of those things that was hard to understand, for different reasons. John assured me that it was best to get satellite with DVR. You can only argue with a man, who's needs are simple, so much before you just become a brat. John told me that DVR saves marriages. I gave in and we have been proud owners of satellite TV and a DVR.

Here we are two years later and I have grown to love this device for many reasons, the obvious being that I don't miss American Idol or The Office but my true love is that John has this great quirk about him that he has to have the area around him clean when he watches a game. This has been wonderful, before John sits down to drink root beer, eat chips and watch his game, whether it be football or basketball, he will clean the living room and do the dishes. I am then able to clean the rest of the house or sit down and type out a blog entry all while he is watching his game. This has been a wonderful gift and I have learned a great lesson it is better to embrace the things John loves rather than try and change him. Who knew I would love football and basketball season, I sure never thought I would.

  1. CONGRATULATIONS on your new home and on your upcoming motherhood! The pictures look AMAZING! What a dream home; I'm so jealous! Maybe we'll be able to come visit in the next year or so; I've been wanting to go to Arizona for a long time. I know you have TONS of family and a ton of experience, but if you have any questions or if there is anything I can do for you with your Foster kids, let me know!

  2. That's awesome that John will clean before he watches a game. I'm afraid that I'm the one who needs DVR. I planned my life around The Office and So You Think You Can Dance, but now I can do whatever I want and just watch it later. DVR is the bomb!
