Sisters and Sisters in Law

Anyone with sisters (and sisters in law) know what an amazing miracle they are. I was recently at my uncle's funeral and I was able to be with 4 out of my 7 sisters. This was a very pleasant experience, nothing out of the ordinary happened but my heart was blessed a little more for the time I spent with them. On a daily basis I will talk to at least one if not 4 or 5 of these beautiful gems. It may be a phone conversation, it may be an email or a comment left on my blog but everyday my life is blessed.

Last night as I was falling to sleep one of my sisters called me just to talk. We talked about the fun things she is teaching her children, we talked about the gospel and if we follow the Prophet and prepare we shall not fear. The best part of this conversation was her telling me how her life is being blessed with peace and strength to make it through the things that she is trudging through. She used a beautiful analogy about a plant in her yard that she planted a year ago. I hope she doesn't mind me sharing this with you, I want to share it because it has helped me have faith in my struggles. This plant was beautiful and it was blossoming gorgeous flowers, she had pruned it just right. Yes, this plant would grow to be amazing. This last Spring she told her son that he could prune some branches on a tree being as helpful as he is he pruned this same plant. He didn't only prune it he really pruned it. What was done is done and my sister thought that she will just have to leave the plant alone and see what happens.

Recently the plant started to grow leaves. Yesterday morning as my sister was laying in bed she thought about this plant and the symbolism it had to her life. Since it had been pruned the only thing this plant could to was rely on its roots. Like her and the plant sometimes our beautiful flowers are cut back and our leaves are pruned far more then is comfortable, at these times we have to rely on our own roots. We have to go deep into our souls and find strength in our Savior. During this process we may not be ready to bloom flowers but we are starting to grow leaves. I am so grateful that my sister shared this with me I too feel pruned way beyond the seasonal pruning and I have to find strength in my roots.
I am grateful for the friends that God gave me to keep through Eternity.

To all my sisters in law know that I wish we had a picture of all of us girls because we may as well have all been sisters and then I would have posted that photo.

  4. We are blessed to be born into families, aren't we? I wish we were closer so we could see each other more frequently. I love you! Thanks for sharing about the plant. It's a great analogy for life.
