Rape Is Not A Consequence

Recently I got a much needed pedicure.  While I was getting it I told the woman doing it about the Walk a Mile In Her Shoes.  We then discussed how rape is a big problem in Utah County.  The woman doing the pedicure started to tell me of a girl who recently a man attempted to rape.  The girl had been coming home late, about 3 in the morning.  The woman then said something I have heard many times, "Stupid Girl, what was she doing out that late".  No, not stupid girl.  Rape is not a consequence for staying out late, being tired the next day is.  Rape isn't a consequence of being drunk or even on drugs.  NO ONE ever has the right to take the sacred and most intimate part of another human being.  The truth is we are all vulnerable people and unfortunately that makes us all target to rape.  It isn't just the "bad"girls doing bad things that get raped.  Good innocent women trying to do good things get raped.  It is horrible and leaves scars and pain.  What needs to happen is the blame needs to be placed onto the correct person, the one doing the crime.

  1. Well said! And congratulations on the pedi. Amanda and I had an appointment to get pedi's last Wednesday- but we visited the doctors office instead. :( Luckily 'manda is getting better.

  2. I agree, we need to quit putting the blame on the person being molested. I've even heard the comment, "We need to teach the girls how to protect themselves, then they wouldn't get raped." WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? Girls wouldn't have to worry about protecting themselves if it weren't for MEN thinking that girls are objects to give them pleasure. Our world is so distorted.
